It's time to take the dust off our favorite jackets and grab all the pumpkin spice-flavored drinks.
I love Summer, but there's nothing like Autumn in New York. The city looks charming, the street fashion is ever so inspiring, and the weather is finally pleasant. It's also the best time of the year to get dressed. Adding a third piece and wearing layers is so much fun!
After listening to my client's requests, I have a new online service. It's called Styling Hour. The idea is to assist you with questions about your wardrobe. I can help you get dressed for a specific occasion by wearing clothes you already have. To learn more, read here.
SMALL TALK WITH KATIE DIEHL, MS, CNS, LDN, AN INTEGRATIVE NUTRITIONIST
MC: How much water should I be drinking every day?
KD:You want to start with ½ your body weight in ounces daily. If you exercise – depending on the duration, the intensity, and the climate - you should add 30-50oz to your base. I recommend drinking this first thing in the morning (before coffee or tea) and having most of it before 3 p.m. Otherwise, you’ll wake up a bunch throughout the night to use the restroom.
MC: Is it normal to feel bloated all the time?
KD: No. If you are frequently bloated, there is an underlying issue that may not be related to food sensitivities. I recommend running a PCR stool analysis test. I run the GI Map test in my practice to see what’s going on inside your gut – pathogens, parasites, worms, levels of normal bacteria flora, levels of opportunistic bacteria flora, potential leaky gut, digestive enzyme output, etc.
MC: I skip breakfast every morning. Should I be eating breakfast?
KD: Yes, 100%! When we wake up in the morning (assuming we received 7-9 hours of sleep), our body has fasted, so our metabolism is on fire. To keep that fire alive, to balance your blood sugar and energy, you must eat a hearty breakfast. Start by fueling your body with quality proteins, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates. I recommend eggs (cooked to your liking) with a side of oatmeal that includes berries and a healthy fat of choice – nuts, seeds, or nut butter. By eating breakfast, you will avoid low energy, sugar cravings throughout the day, and getting to a place of “hangry” come mid-afternoon. Breakfast is known to be the most important meal of the day. That's for a reason.
