SUMMER 2021: ONE FOR THE BOOKS!

Last week we got the great news that NY is reopening. So all I can think about is relaxing and having a good time this Summer!

As I have probably told you, I am a beach girl at heart. I'm from Rio de Janeiro and, in my opinion, the best feeling in the world is when I walk on warm sand while I listen to the sound of the waves.

Fun fact: I actually met my husband at Ipanema Beach. Yes, the one from the famous song "Girl from Ipanema." It's also where I took my kids to go for a swim before leaving Brazil.

My point is: for me, there is no such thing as spending Summertime without planning a trip to a beach.

Besides my travel plans, I have lots of work to do until July:

  • 1:1 clients (July is almost fully booked!);

  • I will be teaching an Image Consulting/Personal Styling certification course;

  • A mentoring program for stylists.

Life is all about balance, right?
I hope you find yours to make the most out of this season. I'm sure this one will be even more special for all of us.

How is your Summer wardrobe?

Many clients are contacting me for two reasons. They need help to revamp their Summer wardrobe or to get ready to go back to the office. What to wear now? It feels confusing after a long time working from home, right?

ICYMI, I wrote some posts to inspire you to go to your closet, create new outfits, and purchase items you might need. Find them here:

SMALL TALK WITH ANDREA D'ANDREA, A PHOTOGRAPHER WHO LIVES IN NYC
All I can think about is the Summer holidays. That's why I invited Andrea to answer some questions that come up when we take pictures outdoors.

MC - How can we take great pictures on the beach? If we are against the sun, it doesn't look good. But it's also hard to keep our eyes open when we need to look the other way.

Andrea - Always take pictures facing the sun, but turn your face a little sideways. But not so much to avoid having a shadow on half of your face. Another tip is to take a photo against the sun to have a more artistic silhouette. Try not to take pictures at midday. The sun is very harsh at this time. It also casts a shadow on the ground that isn't cool.
The best times are at the beginning and end of the day. That's because the sunlight is more beautiful and even corrects imperfections. On the other hand, intense sunlight highlights imperfections.

MC - What do we do when taking a picture of someone with an amazing landscape behind them? What should we prioritize? What setting would you use?

Andrea - It depends on your idea. There is the possibility of prioritizing both, even if you're using your phone. Don't get so close to the person for that. If you want to focus on the person, use portrait mode. But the background is going to come out blurred. On your phone, wait for the yellow stripe to appear before taking the photo. Depending on the phone, you can edit and adjust the blur in the background. Portrait mode always makes your face look more beautiful.

MC - What should we use for simple photo editing?

Andrea - Use your own cell phone. With the exposure function, you can increase or decrease the brightness. And with the color saturation function, you can make the photos look brighter. You can alter the shadow to make the lower part darker and edit the brilliance on the top. This works great. Remember that you can always cancel and start editing again.

A BRAND FOR YOU TO KNOW: SUMMERSALT

Summersalt is a size-inclusive swimwear brand. I only hear positive reviews from clients that have tried their products. Their styles are current and the fact that they have all kinds of women as models is amazing to see. After all, a plus-size girl should be able to buy clothes at the same place as her size medium friend.
