Wardrobe essentials: the Denim jacket
First things first: I don't believe in must-have lists. In fact, I've mentioned this in my previous posts about wardrobe essentials.
What I like to share here is actually my personal list, and I invite you to try to create yours, too.
If you're wondering how to do so, don't worry. I can help you!
How do you make your own must-have list?
Start with analyzing your favorite clothes. Which ones do you wear a lot and on different occasions?
Don't consider the pieces you choose because it's easy, or you don't need to think a lot to style them, but the ones that make you feel yourself.
When I do this exercise, I immediately think of a denim jacket.
I have more than one, but my go-to is a Stella McCartney. I bought it at a sample sale when I was living in Singapore, 13 or 14 years ago. I absolutely love this piece because It's fitted, short, and dark blue - my favorite color for denim jackets.
I also have one from Edun, a sustainable brand that I believe doesn't exist anymore. The buttons are adorable, it's a bit longer and looser but still looks polished for a denim jacket.
Finally, I have a classic one from Everlane that is a bit lighter.
How do I style my denim jackets?
I wear my Everlane jacket at casual events. I take it when I go on a vacation - it's perfect for chilly Summer nights at the beach. The other two are more elegant - even though denim jackets are often considered casual pieces.
The Stella McCartney is amazing to pair with dresses because I am petite. I also think it's a good layer for transitional weather. For instance, sometimes I add a trench coat over it.
On the other hand, the Edun is super dark. I like to style it with cropped pants in different colors. It works as any third piece and it instantly elevates the outfit.
