NY Fashion Week Spring 2023 trends

New York Fashion Week is finally back to normal. The city was so alive! Fashion shows were full of attendants, and all the brands showed lots of outfits since they could have a regular number of models and people working backstage at the shows.

Fashion shows are still relevant for designers and brands to show the concept of their collections, despite the exposure on social media. While I was giving a course during NYFW, we worked backstage at Altuzarra and Tibi. There is nothing like seeing the clothes in person. It's much different from the photos! Additionally, NYC gets a lot of visitors, and we need it.

Let's check the styles we will find in the stores starting next February. We can already see some of them this season. Trends aren't changing quickly - we are glad it's been like this. A well-planned wardrobe doesn't need to be changed every year. It is the opposite. The more you wear your clothes and shop strategically for a few items every season, the better. It shows your style is the most important.

My clients complained about too many puff sleeves, voluminous dresses, and cut-outs in the past seasons. But I come with great news. We will find more fitted dresses, although we will still see some volume in different places. I don't think they will be viral like the so-called nap dress.

Here are twelve trends to watch:

1. Crochet:

It's not new, but it's not going anywhere. It's everywhere - from preppy to modern dresses.

2. Metallic, especially gold:

You can find shiny pieces not only for party dresses but also for leather coats.

3. Statement skirts:

Instead of buying a dress for a party, you can choose a skirt and wear it with a T-shirt, a button-down shirt, or a sweater, which means it's much more versatile.

4. Bubble hem skirts:

The '80s trends are coming back. It's very dramatic. You might want it in a party dress if it fits your style.

5. Peplum:

It's another comeback. It adds some volume, but some tops are very discreet. I expect to see a lot in the stores.

6. Long skirt:

An all-year-round piece to have in your wardrobe. Pair it with sandals, sneakers, and boots. It looks great with T-shirts and sweaters, too.

7. Utilitarian pieces:

You will find pickets not only in pants but also in skirts and jackets.

8. Show some belly:

These are not the cut-outs of the past seasons. Some dresses show the belly a little, but the shirts and cardigans had the last buttons opened. Remember, this is a styling trick. You decide how you will wear it.

9. Capes:

We will notice evening gowns with dramatic capes, but they might come in different versions. I'm excited about this trend!

10. Fringes:

We are ready to party, just like in the '20s!

11. The baguette:

Fendi, the Italian brand, decided to show its collection in NYC instead of Milan. They are celebrating 25 years of the iconic baguette bag. If you watched Sex and the City, you know Carrie Bradshaw wore a purse so much that it went viral. The designer Marc Jacobs and Sarah Jessica Parker were collaborators of the collection. Some outfits had up to nine baguettes in every size, including some attached to sleeves and socks.

12. Colors:

Lime, bright pink, red, purple. The dopamine fashion is here. Does it mean everything will be in a bright color? Not really. We know lime green isn't an easy color to sell. I will write about how to introduce bright colors to your wardrobe if you wish so.

How do you like NY Spring 2023 trends? We will see much more when the collections reach the stores next year. It will be a pleasure to show you how to add these trends to your closet.
