Five tips on how to choose winter boots

Winter is finally showing in New York - after weeks of rain and unusually warm weather, today we woke up to a blanket of snow, as did a great part of the US.

I have a brand new selection if you're looking for new boots.

This season is a good time to find discounts, but it's important to be cautious when shopping online. Some sizes may sell out before the sales start.

Here are five important tips before buying Winter boots:

1. Consider the weather in your area.

Check if the boots are waterproof and have a suitable outsole.

2. Try on new boots with the socks you usually wear.

Boots often need to be half a size larger than your regular shoes. Walk around a bit to ensure you've chosen the right size.

3. Think about picking a different color

You don't always have to go for black boots; for example, gray complements many other colors in your wardrobe.

4. Maybe consider skipping Uggs this time?

While Uggs are cozy and warm, they were designed for indoor use and aren't waterproof. Your feet might get cold if the boots get wet outside.

5. Winter boots have a casual style

Regardless of the brand, Winter boots are seen as informal. Consider changing into different shoes upon arrival if you're attending a more formal event.
