Tips on how to be stylish after a certain age
I usually avoid using terms such as "women of a certain age", "women over 40, 50 or 60 etc." just because I believe that we can look fabulous at any age and wear pretty much the same clothes - sometimes all we need is just to change the way we style them.
What I mean is that I don’t believe in rules of what is appropriate or not.
However, I know that many of you look for information and inspiration about this topic, so I thought I could give some suggestions on how to be stylish regardless of what your ID states!
If you don’t know how to wear your clothes anymore or you're feeling confused about the pieces you own - Do they still fit properly? Do they make me look younger or older? Are they age appropriate? - here are some tips to help you out:
1. LEARN ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL STYLE
Hopefully by now you understand and embrace your personal style.
If you do, congrats! It's easier to know what you really like to wear once you know who you are and what makes you feel comfortable.
That's why a good foundation, with the addition of some items every season to make your outfit more current, is the best way to go!
2. HAVE A CURATED WARDROBE
You can even adapt a uniform - not in a boring sense.
You can have a capsule or a curated wardrobe with high quality pieces that are both versatile and make sense for your lifestyle.
3. ACCESSORIZE TO IMPRESS
Accessories are the best to spice up your outfits.
They add personality and make you stand out from other people that are wearing similar clothes to you.
In fact, earrings or necklaces are vital to bring attention to your face and camouflage the stomach area - in case this is something that bothers you.
4. SAY HELLO TO STYLISH KICKS
Shoes make all the difference!
If you have decided to give up on wearing high heels, there are plenty of fashionable and modern options of blocked or kitten heels - not to mention the many options of sneakers that go very well with all sorts of outfits - even with dresses!
5. LEARN MORE ABOUT COLOR COMBINATIONS
Wearing colors that work for your complexion next to your face - shirts, scarfs, eyeglasses, sunglasses, earring and necklaces - really make a difference.
Creating different color combinations with clothes and different accessories can multiply your wardrobe.
6. ADD A THIRD PIECE
A third piece can elevate any outfit.
A jacket, a blazer, a cardigan or a vest can create vertical lines and elongate the figure - a goal that many of my clients seek to achieve!
7. HAVE FUN
The last tip is probably the most important: always have fun getting dressed!
Our personal style, our clothes and accessories are a perfect non-verbal way of communicating with the world.
