My purchase at a second-hand shop

This month we celebrated Earth Day.

As you know, I like to talk about the importance of having a sustainable wardrobe. I believe we can achieve this with conscious shopping and taking care of what we already own. It doesn't matter where we bought it or how much it cost.

Conscious shopping means buying what we love that aligns with our style and lifestyle.

Here is a quick story I will share with you:

I was looking for a pair of pink pants. It's not a color that I wear often. Most of the pinks don't look good on me. However, there are many options available in the stores. And pink is trendy at the moment. But I wasn't happy with the prices, the styles, the shades, or the quality.

After doing research, I ended up purchasing from an online second-hand shop. The pants were from a high-end brand that I love, but I usually don't buy there because it's above my budget. The product was new, with tags, and it cost a fraction of its regular price.

So what lessons did we learn from my experience? Before you shop for something it's not really what you're looking for, read these five tips:

1. Think about what’s worth investing your money in. The way my pants fit is vital to me. I prefer to save money on other items.

2. Consider all the possibilities. Do you know any outlet stores? Do you remember when the sales of your favorite stores happen?

3. I don’t see a problem with buying used clothing. But you can find brand new clothes at thrift shops, too. I have bought quite a few products that still had tags on them.

4. Buying an item just because it's from a nice brand and it's cheap isn't a good reason. You need to love it first, make sure that it fits your style and lifestyle, and come up with different ways and occasions to wear it.

5. Besides buying at a second-hand shop, you should sell clothes that don't fit you anymore or that don't send the message you want to deliver. Remember that what we choose to wear is a way of nonverbal communication with the world. If you have clothes that don't spark joy, try to list them on eBay, Poshmark, The Thredup, and The Real Real.
