Layering jackets

When the temperature drops in NY and I need to be outside for a long time (for example, when I go to stores or take the subway to see a client), I usually choose my heaviest down puffer coat with layers underneath. But when the temperature is around 40°F, I try to create different combinations by layering more than one coat. Because I get bored if I wear the same black jacket for months, I believe we need to have some fun getting dressed - especially in the Winter.

I like to give realistic suggestions. I avoid the crazy ones we often see on the internet and don't apply to our real lives.

I have just returned from a trip to Isreal. I knew it was chilly, but not like NY. It was also the rainy season there. I wanted to pack as lightly as possible, so I packed two jackets I could wear separately or layered.

The coat and jacket I mentioned in another post about layering weren't practical for this trip. So I decided to take my old Uniqlo light-down puffer in black and a wool jacket from a collaboration between Uniqlo x JW Anderson. The second is sufficiently roomy to wear the thin puffer underneath. I picked clothes that would match both jacket colors - black and camel.

In the end, we got lucky. It rained just for an hour during the entire trip. Some days I decided to wear only one of the jackets, other days were cold in the morning, but it got warm during the day. Thankfully the light puff jacket is small enough to be carried in a bag.

Here's a quick fashion tip:

As I have told you, I am petite (5'3"). With some exceptions, I need to send my clothes for alterations to shorten the sleeves. That's what I did with this camel jacket. Although we see many images of sweaters and jackets with very long sleeves, they aren't practical or don't fit well.

How often do you send your clothes for alterations? Do you have a good tailor? How our clothes fit us is very important. Additionally, we can make an old jacket or pair of pants look current with a visit to a tailor.
