How to wear dresses with sneakers

After three rainy days, we had a beautiful sunny day in NYC on Memorial Day. I took this opportunity to visit MoMA and attend the Calder exhibition. Then, I had a nice lunch at a busy corner in Soho.

Because restaurants are all over the sidewalks and streets, they end up becoming an ideal place for people watching. And for me, this includes looking at what women are wearing, now that we can finally start to socialize again.

This is why I wanted to tell you that 95% of the women I saw were wearing sneakers yesterday, either paired with dresses or pants.

I know how hard it is for some of you to wear a dress with sneakers. Women tend to associate dresses with sandals or heels because they are very feminine. But the good news is that dresses and sneakers look cool together and super girly, too.

So here are some tips to style this duo:

1. Look for interesting sneakers

I'm not really talking about the ones you wear at the gym. I like Veja shoes a lot. They're sustainable, comfy, and sold in good stores around the world. But there are many other incredible options, too. Look for the Brazilian brand called Cariuma (check photos).

2. Play with colors

Sneakers should match the outfit. Otherwise, they get all the attention. Look at the four outfits I prepared for you. There are many reasons why I chose them, and color is definitely one of them.

3. How to match the bag?

Like any other shoes, the material doesn't need to be the same as your purse, but it needs to have some "connection". Because sneakers are casual I recommend picking crossbody bags, summer bags made of raffia or straw, or a bag made of canvas. All of these choices are great!

4. What about the dress?

Wondering if you can put on sneakers with any type of dress? It depends on your style.

Shirt dresses are an easy alternative. On the other hand, a feminine flowy dress looks a little different, so it's just a matter of personal taste. I think it's stylish but I know it's not for everyone.

5. Is it only appropriate for young people?

I assure you that this combo can be worn at any age! The only risk you're taking is that you will look extremely modern!

Sneakers are comfy and safe, so go for it!
