How to wear cropped pants

In the past years, we have been seeing more people wearing cropped pants rather than the usual long length ones. I believe this is happening for a few reasons, such as:

  • We can wear them with different shoes, from flats to very high heels. This is a wonderful style to take on a trip;

  • They look amazing with pumps or sneakers, so it makes them incredibly versatile;

  • Cropped pants go with boots or espadrilles, so they easily can be worn all year round.

If you aren't very tall or if you are worried they can cut your figure, here are some tips to put on some nice cropped pants and look great

HIGH-WAIST PANTS: YAY OR NAY?

High-waist pants always elongate your legs. That's why you should pay attention to your proportions and evaluate whether the waist is too high for you;

MONOCHROMATIC OUTFITS? YES, PLEASE!

If you wear a monochromatic outfit, it won't shorten your figure at all. Get inspired by these 3 posts about Monochromatic Combinations.

MATCHING SHOES TO YOUR CROPPED PANTS

If you choose shoes in a similar color to the pants, it will have the same effect as wearing long pants;

BREAK THE RULES IF YOU WILL

I totally believe rules should be broken. That's what I constantly tell my clients: magazines or blog tips are not for everyone - including mine. :)

As I have told you, I am petite - 5'3" - and I wear cropped pants a lot because they are practical, versatile and I am able to wear them here in NY during winter or summer. Besides, they fit my personal style and I like how they look on me.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST: WHAT ABOUT THE LENGTH?

This is a question I get from all my clients and followers. That's why I decided to write this post. Here are some golden tips:

  • Above the ankles or up to 1" shorter would look good on any of you. Much shorter than this is what they call capri pants. This model hit the calves, which probably won't fit everybody. This happens because the calves are the widest area of our legs below the knees, so the proportions might get weird.

  • Remember that pants are made for women of different heights. So, there is nothing wrong with our bodies (never!), but it's pretty much impossible to look amazing for short and tall people at the same time. That's why I highly recommend finding a skilled tailor. When our clothes fit better, the whole outfit will look elevated.

As a reminder, you can book a wardrobe consultation to learn the best fits for you - considering your personal style, lifestyle, and what you want to camouflage or enhance in your body.

By the way, I don't tell anyone what kind of body types they have or hand out a list of dos and don'ts. I prefer to listen to my clients' difficulties and work on their image goals.
