How to save money: 4 tips to shop in your own closet

Who says shopping can’t be done at home? I don’t mean shopping online, but shopping in your own closet!

This can be an opportunity to have some fun, which is something that we all need now, right?!

Lately I’ve been using my time at home to take a careful look at my jewelry drawer so as to try different combinations and ways of styling my outfits. I personally don’t believe in that rule that says we should toss something out just because we haven’t worn it in six months. I believe that if we still like the piece, we should give it a try.

Here are my tips to save money and shop in your own closet:

1. Start an outfit album

I would start by choosing some good old investment pieces. I’m talking about the ones you spent more money on because they have good quality, but for some reason you haven’t worn them in a long time. Try to come up with at least three new looks by mixing them with newer pieces. Take photos and create a new album on your phone just for these inspiring outfit ideas.

2. Color combinations that suit your complexion

Now it’s time to create three looks by matching colors that you’ve never dreamt of  wearing. Have you ever tried putting on pink and orange clothes together? What about brown and turquoise? - A little secret here: I especially love this duo!

3. Pick one formal item and create a casual look.

For example: pick a denim jacket over a dress that you wore to a wedding. Then, change the shoes and the jewelry. Get inspired by this article here

4. Or ...do the opposite: Pick a casual piece and build a party look.

Accessories here are the key: hairpins, earrings and a clutch. Oh, and don’t forget the power of a brighter lipstick!

Are you going to have fun doing this? I truly hope so! Let me know what you think about these suggestions in the comments and if posting on your Instagram account, don’t forget to tag me - @marciacrivorot!

PS:  A quick reminder here: take photos of your new outfits in order to create an album with them. So, when life (finally) gets back to normal you will be able to easily find this archive and know what to wear right away. Plus, this should encourage you to keep doing this amusing and useful task from time to time.
