How to create new outfits without buying new clothes

Did you know that not a single item in this photo is new?

Many people think personal stylists only wear new clothes or that we advise our clients to buy the trends and must-haves of each season.

But this isn't the reality. At least, it's not what I do or how my wardrobe works.

Can I tell you a secret? The more I wear my clothes and accessories, the more they make me happy. It's a good sign that they fit my style and lifestyle. So I think I did a great job at purchasing them.

Here's what I'm wearing:

This dress was purchased 7 years ago

Look at this seven-year-old dress! It has the perfect fit for my silhouette since it's loose where I gain weight. Yes, most of us gained weight during the pandemic. The top of the dress looks very current. You could easily find it at the stores this summer. On top of that, it's a nice color for my complexion.

What about a 16 years old pair of earrings? They were silver and now they are gold plated.

I bought these earrings when I lived in Mexico. They are at least sixteen years old. Before, they were silver-plated. As the silver peeled off, I re-plated them because I look better in yellow gold. I also knew I was going to make more use of them. They look brand new, don't they?

Handmade Capri sandals purchased in 2012

As for the sandals, I bought them on a trip to Capri in the summer of 2012. There were handmade. The store's owner finalizes them at the time of the purchase. That way, they are perfectly tailored to your feet. I always take them on vacation since they are so comfortable and well-made. Recently, I took them to a cobbler for repair because I want to wear them on my next trip!

Naturally, I buy new products, too. My point is that you can create current outfits without having to buy everything new. It's all about balance!

My last tip is easy. Keep a list of the best tailors and cobblers in your area. Most products look as if they are new once repaired. That way, they personalize your outfits, and it's sustainable.
