Fashion: How to get ready for Fall 2020

Can you believe that Fall is around the corner? I know, time is flying!

Here in New York we can sense in the air that Summer is - sadly! - coming to an end.

It just feels different, regardless if most of the days are still hot. That's why it's probably that time of the year when we need to talk about how to get your closet ready for the new season!

Even if you love Summer (I certainly do!), there is nothing like Fall in NY.

So my suggestion is simple: enjoy what is about to come, and when you have a chance, take a look at your wardrobe and start thinking about how to style your looks for the cool weather.

Last week, I wrote an article titled “How to transition your clothes from Summer to Fall”. And I got great feedback from my clients!

In fact, I received many comments that surprised me. Some women mentioned that they had never thought about wearing a sweater over a dress.

We live and we learn, right?!

I also hear clients and friends saying that they struggle to get dressed during this transition between seasons, when it is not really warm or not too cold either. So I realized I should talk more about this subject to help you out!

In my opinion, this is actually the best time of the year to get dressed.

Let me explain: since it's not scorching or freezing, the mild temperature allows us the chance to wear a third piece of clothing - I mean a jacket, a blazer or a cardigan which will instantly elevate our outfit and make us look even more elegant! Not to mention that we don’t need to wear a heavy coat - yet!

Here are some tips on how to start getting your wardrobe ready for Fall:

  • Begin with your summer dresses

Could you style them in different ways? How about adding a cardigan, suede sandals or boots?

  • Don’t give up on your white denim so soon!

Try different combinations, such as a light grey sweater. Add a pair of camel or light brown boots. Extra suggestion: camel and grey look super chic together!

  • The same applies to your sleeveless tops!

If you have a cute sleeveless top that you don’t want to wear a jacket over it, how about trying to add a thin shirt under it?

  • Play with colors!

Have fun trying different combinations! You don’t need to wear the classic Fall colors if you don’t like them or if they don’t look good on you.

  • Don’t wait for a rainy day to wear a trench coat

It’s a perfect mid-season light coat! I love putting on a trench coat with a very simple outfit: jeans + T-shirt + pair of loafers or tennis shoes.

  • If you feel that there's something missing in your wardrobe and you want to fill this gap, be strategic when you go shopping.

  • Think about the items you already have and love as well as what you know you will be still loving in the upcoming seasons.

Plus, try to consider your agenda for this Fall: are you traveling or staying home most of the time? I know we can't really plan much now due to the current situation, but you can get a vague idea and plan accordingly.
