9 tips on how to wear a button-down shirt
“Marcia, how should I wear a button-down shirt now?"
I love when clients ask me questions. A button-down shirt, such as a crispy white one, is so chic and versatile. But silhouettes change. Therefore, the way we style a wardrobe foundation piece differs, too.
If you look at what's in the stores, you will notice that shirts are more oversized than fitted. Don't worry! You don't need to give away the button-down shirts you already own. If you want to update your wardrobe without spending too much money, I suggest getting a new one that is a bit oversized.
You can style your shirt in nine different ways. Here is how:
1 - A shirt is a great third piece for transitional weather. I wrote a post about it in the Fall. Just wear it open over a T-shirt and jeans.
2 - Put on a shirt with a pair of pleated trousers. It's elegant and timeless.
3 - Pull the sleeves and tie a knot in the front. Then, finish up with shorts and flats.
4 - Do a half-tuck in the front on just one of the sides (left or right). It will look casual.
5 - A button-down shirt is a stylish cover-up. That's why it's a great item to pack for a trip.
6 - You don't necessarily need to get a white shirt. Although it's always a nice choice, there are amazing options in stripes and other colors.
7 - A linen shirt is perfect for the Summer and works perfectly in any of the situations I mentioned above.
8 - You can also steal a shirt from your significant other. I did so and I can't wait to wear it.
9 - If you are petite, don't forget to pull your sleeves. Showing your wrists is always a fun idea. Besides, you play with proportions. If it is too long, tuck it in at least in the front. When you show your waist, you elongate your figure.
